Hello everyone, this is HANBS, I'm Sonya and it's another day of sharing with you, and today I'm going to share the difference between sliding headstock cnc lathe and swiss type cnc lathe.

Honestly speaking, the difference between these two is not very big, because sliding head cnc lathe can also be called swiss cnc lathe, and even they are not very different in design, but there are some differences in their working principle and application areas, let's take a look!

1. Design and structure:

  • Sliding head cnc lathe.

Design: sliding headstock cnc lathe is designed for machining long and thin parts, the main feature is the “sliding head” structure, the workpiece is lifted from a section of the spindle through the guide sleeve, and in the process of machining is close to the tool, from start to finish are close to the tool can be The sliding head structure effectively reduces the vibration of the bending of long and thin parts.

Structure: sliding headstock cnc lathe mainly includes spindle, guide sleeve, turret, control system, etc. The workpiece is supported by the guide sleeve and moves with the spindle and tool together.

  • Swiss type cnc lathe:

Design: The swiss cnc lathe is similar to the sliding head cnc lathe in that it is also used for machining long and thin parts, but it is designed for precision parts and multi-functional multi-dimensional machining. It is usually equipped with a wider variety of tools and more complex tooling systems.

Structure: swiss cnc lathe mainly consists of main and secondary spindles, guide bushings, turret (may or may not have) and tool changing system, it supports multi-program machining and can complete turning, drilling, milling and other operations in a single clamping.

2.Working Principle:

  • Sliding head cnc lathe:

Working principle: the workpiece is supported by the guide sleeve, the spindle rotates to drive the workpiece, and the tool is horizontally machined along the length of the workpiece. sliding head cnc lathe is characterized by the fact that the workpiece is always close to the tool during machining, in order to reduce the vibration to improve machining  accuracy.

  • Swiss type cnc lathe:

Principle of operation: swiss cnc lathe also machines the workpiece through a guide sleeve, but its design allows for complex multi-axis movements during machining. The spindle and tool can be moved in multiple directions, allowing the lathe to perform a wide range of machining processes such as turning, drilling, milling, and more.

3. Areas of application:

  • Sliding head cnc lathe:

APPLICATIONS: Mainly used for the manufacture of long and thin parts, suitable for small batch production with high progress. Commonly used in medical devices (bone nails, guide wires), the production of precision shaft parts and other fields. It is designed to emphasize machining accuracy and stability.

  • Swiss type cnc lathe:

Application: It is used for the manufacture of high-precision parts that require complex multi-processing, widely used in medical machinery, clocks and watches, electronics, aerospace and other industries. The versatility of the Swiss type lathe makes it very effective in the production of complex parts..

4. Machining accuracy and efficiency

  • Walking center CNC lathe:

Precision: Provides high precision machining, especially suitable for precision machining of thin and long workpieces. It is designed to effectively reduce vibration during machining and improve accuracy.

Efficiency: It is suitable for high-precision small batch production, usually completing multiple processes in one clamping to improve productivity.

  • Swiss-type CNC lathe:

Precision: Provides the same high-precision machining, but is able to cope with more types of machining tasks due to its versatile tooling system and sophisticated operation.

Efficiency: The ability to complete multiple machining processes in a single clamping improves productivity and is particularly suitable for small to large batch production.

Summarize:

Both walk-behind CNC lathes and Swiss-type CNC lathes are used for high-precision machining of long and thin parts, but they differ in design and function. The design of the walk-behind machine lathe focuses on reducing workpiece bending and vibration, improving machining accuracy, and is suitable for precision machining of long and thin parts. Swiss-type lathes, on the other hand, have more features and tooling systems that allow them to accomplish more processes and are suitable for complex parts. The choice of machine depends on the specific machining requirements and part characteristics.

That's all for today's sharing, I hope it can help people in need, we'll see you in the next issue. Bye~
